This site was established while I was a Member of Parliament. As Parliament has now dissolved, there are no Members of Parliament until after the Election on 4th July 2024.

Meet Gareth Bacon

Gareth was first elected as Orpington's Member of Parliament in December 2019. He was born in Hong Kong and raised and educated in Sidcup, where he later settled with his wife and daughter. After university, he worked in financial services before moving into recruitment as a Director of a large firm. Before being elected Orpington's MP, he had a long record of public service as a councillor and London Assembly Member.

In Parliament, Gareth has worked hard to deliver for you and your family, blocking an attempt to weaken green protections, securing more police officers for Orpington, and fighting Sadiq Khan’s unjustified and harmful expansion of the ULEZ. He served in Government as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to three Cabinet Ministers and as a Minister since November last year. He is your Conservative candidate for the General Election on the 4th of July.

I'm proud of what we've achieved together locally

3,468 more police officers
I've secured the new seven-strong Orpington town centre team and I'm fighting for more officer across all parts of the constituency.

Investing in Princess Royal University Hospital
We're building a new £20 million endoscopy unit at the PRUH to help detect and treat cancer earlier, caring for up to 4,500 patients a year. We've also built a new car park for NHS workers and patients, and a new staff wellbeing hub.

Investing in Orpington Hospital
We've built a new state-of-the-art operating theatre to reduce waiting lists with hundreds more operations a year. We've also built a new staff wellbeing hub to look after NHS workers.

More funding for the NHS
The Conservative Government has invested record amounts to improve NHS care. Our local NHS Trust now has 110 more doctors, 187 more nurses, and 41 more GPs with half a million more appointments.

Fairer school funding
I fought for fairer school funding for Orpington to end  - and won. School funding has risen faster here than in the rest of London. I'm fighting Labour's plan to impose VAT on private schools.

Boosting high-speed broadband
I helped secure the £5 billion Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme to build digital infrastructure in rural areas like Downe, Farnborough, and Pratts Bottom.

Upgrading Petts Wood and St Mary Cray rail stations
I lobbied and secured step-free access at Petts Wood and St Mary Cray rail stations thanks to a £15 million investment.

Protecting our unique character
I promised to protect Orpington's unique character. That's why I opposed inappropriate plans to redevelop the Walnuts Centre. The proposals would have seen fifteen new buildings, with the largest being 19 storeys tall. The application was withdrawn.

Protecting the green belt
I defeated a bid to review the green belt protections and worked with Bromley Council to secure tough enforcement action against rogue developers wrecking green fields. I also campaigned for a new law to crack down on people illegally wrecking green spaces. But Labour now threatens our green spaces again. I'll fight them.

My new plan for Orpington

A stronger local economy
We're lucky to have so many successful businesses and good job opportunities locally. As we rebuild post-COVID, I will back local businesses to bring new, better-paid jobs here and build an even stronger local economy.

Protect the green belt
Orpington is a great place to live, work and raise a family because it's green. I'll fight Labour's pledge to weaken green belt protections and campaign for a new law to tackle rogue developers.

Improve hospitals and schools
I'll continue to fight for fairer school funding to back our local teachers, more GP appointments locally, and more hospital improvements.

Keep Orpington safe
We have a record number of police officers in Greater London. But Sadiq Khan keeps them in central London. I'll keep fighting for our fair share of police officers to keep Orpington safe.

Stop the war on motorists; better rail and bus services
I'll lobby for more reliable and faster public transport connections and fight Labour's road pricing plans to keep Orpington moving.

Protect Orpington's unique character
Orpington is a special place to live. I'll keep it that way with family homes that match local character.
