My objection to proposed green belt development in St Mary Cray

I've now formally submitted my objection to the proposed St Mary Cray green belt development.

The proposal to build around 350 homes on farmland south of Crockenhill Road is wrong — in principle and in practice.

My objection covers the following:

  • The land is not so called “grey belt”. It hasn’t been developed and doesn’t even meet the government’s own definition.

  • Local roads are narrow and unsuitable for major construction traffic.

  • GP surgeries, schools and local infrastructure would be further stretched and put under immense pressure.

  • And most importantly, local people are overwhelmingly opposed.

Nearly 99% of responses to the council consultation object to this development.

Furthermore, nearly a thousand people responded to my own survey with more than 95% saying that we should not build on green belt land. A similar number also say we do not have the infrastructure to cope with so many new homes in St Mary Cray.

There is also a wider concern. If this application is approved, it will open the floodgates and more applications will follow across Bromley.

As your MP, I cannot decide this application. But I will make your voices heard and urge the council to reject it.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to respond, object and speak up.
